The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Tokyo Rosai Hospital

Features

The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology strives to provide prompt and appropriate care while emphasizing safety in all aspects of gastrointestinal diseases. The number of upper gastrointestinal endoscopies and colonoscopies in FY2021 was 3063 and 1181, respectively, showing a gradual increase compared to last year when the number of endoscopies decreased significantly due to the spread of COVID19 infection. 160 ERCP and 53 endoscopic submucosal dissection procedures for early stage cancer were performed, almost the same number as previous years. Nasal endoscopy was introduced in September 2006 and has been well received by patients because it is less painful. Ultrasound endoscopy was introduced in September 2019. EUSFNA for pancreatic cystic tumor, pancreatic cancer, gastric GIST, etc. is also performed by specialists, and 57 cases (including 23 cases of EUSFNA) were performed in 2021. Endoscopic treatments such as colorectal polypectomy, endoscopic lithotomy, and gastrostomy (24 cases) are performed safely by 6 specialists of the Japanese Society of Endoscopy. Chemotherapy for gastrointestinal cancers is also performed aggressively. For patients with more advanced stages of disease, we provide the best supportive care in collaboration with the palliative care team. For patients with malignant gastrointestinal stenosis, we collaborate with the Department of Surgery and perform gastrointestinal stenting. Emergency endoscopy and hemostasis for hematemesis and hemorrhage, and emergency drainage for acute cholangitis and common bile duct stones are available on holidays and at night. We are designated as an accredited facility by the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, the Japanese Society of Hepatology, and a teaching facility by the Japanese Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. We aim to be a gastroenterology department that patients can immediately remember when they are in need of help. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
