The Department of Rehabilitation, Tokyo Rosai Hospital

Features

The department is a training facility of the Japanese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, and specialists are on staff. In addition to physical therapy and occupational therapy, we have a system in place to provide a comprehensive approach to the problems faced by the physically disabled, including speech therapy, psychological assessment, and vocational rehabilitation referral counseling, and are designated as a facility with comprehensive rehabilitation approval by workers’ compensation and health insurance.

We provide appropriate services with abundant experience in rehabilitation for spinal cord injury, limb amputation, head trauma, and osteoarticular disorders characteristic of cerebrovascular disorders and workers’ compensation medical care.

High Performance Equipment, Special Equipment, etc.

For evaluation of motor function, we have neuromuscular evoked system including muscle strength evaluation training equipment and electromyography, which enables multifaceted diagnosis and evaluation.

About each therapy room

The Department is a comprehensive rehabilitation facility divided into four divisions: physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychotherapy, and includes a rehabilitation room, physical therapy room, and speech therapy room. Many people with various disabilities undergo training at the department with the aim of reintegrating into the home and society.

Support for returning to work in the Department of Rehabilitation

The following is a list of measures we are taking for patients who have received treatment at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and wish to return to work.

1. Evaluate job information

For those who wish to return to work, in addition to a general rehabilitation evaluation, we conduct an evaluation of physical functions and abilities (lifting heavy objects, operating a computer, etc.) according to the characteristics of the job and collect information related to the job.

2. Visiting guidance for returning to work

(1) Consent of the patient and workplace

(2) Visit to the workplace

Participation by the rehabilitation physician, PT/OT/ST in charge, the patient himself/herself, and the person in charge at the workplace (employer, etc.)

(3) Reflected in the rehabilitation program

  • Creation of self-help devices and splints to reduce the burden on the affected area
  • Instruction on good sitting posture to prevent recurrence
  • Muscle strength training necessary for work
  • Strength training necessary for work
  • Physical fitness for work hours, etc.

(3) Advice for workplaces

  • Improvement of lighting and rearrangement of work area to prevent recurrence
  • Adjust workload according to ability.
  • Request cooperation from coworkers
  • How to avoid problems that may occur after returning to work, etc.

(4) Reporting results to employers after paper-based workplace visits

(5) After rehabilitation, visit the workplace again if necessary
