Occupational therapy refers to work-focused treatment, instruction, and assistance provided in the areas of medicine, health, welfare, education, and occupation to promote people’s health and well-being. At our department, six occupational therapists work to restore and maintain physical and mental functions through occupational activities. They practice activities of daily living, functional exercises, make splints and orthotics, and provide family guidance and house visits. We have also introduced a program (listed on the Rehabilitation Department page) to help patients return to work.

Practice of activities of daily living

We engage in the practice of activities of daily living so that patients can acquire daily living inhibited by their disabilities as early as possible. For this purpose, we practice basic movements such as getting up in the patient’s room and daily living activities in the occupational therapy room and in the actual ward from the early stage after the onset of illness or injury. We also use self-help devices and assistive devices to compensate for impaired functions.

Functional Training

Functional training through occupational activities and physical therapy equipment (IVES, ultrasound therapy equipment, etc.) are provided according to functional level. We also make and introduce splints and orthotics.

Family guidance and home visitation

In preparation for discharge home, we provide guidance to family members, advice on house modification in cooperation with other professions, and selection of welfare equipment.
